The UK Global Talent visa is designed for leaders and potential leaders in three broad fields: academia and research; arts and culture; and digital technology. It is one of the most flexible UK work visas because there is no job offer, no sponsor and no minimum salary. You can work for an employer, be self-employed, change jobs, or run a business, and your dependants can join you. Most applicants must first secure an endorsement from an approved body that confirms their talent. These include UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for research, the Royal Society, British Academy and Royal Academy of Engineering for academia, Arts Council England for arts and culture, and a designated body for digital technology. Each field has its own criteria, so identifying the correct endorsing body for your discipline is the essential first step.

Endorsement comes in two tiers. Once endorsed, you apply for the visa itself, usually decided within about three weeks. You can apply from inside or outside the UK, and you choose how long to be granted, up to five years at a time, paying IHS accordingly.

The accelerated route to settlement is the other major draw: depending on whether you qualify under exceptional talent or exceptional promise, indefinite leave to remain can come after three or five years, often faster than other work routes. After ILR you can usually apply for British citizenship a year later.
