  • Lines: 11 lines, 272 stations. Oldest underground railway (1863).
  • Hours: Mon-Sat: 5am-midnight. Sunday: 7am-11:30pm. Night Tube on Fri/Sat (selected lines)
  • Payment: Contactless card or Oyster card. Tap in AND tap out!
  • Fares: Zone 1: £2.80 (contactless), £6.30 (cash — avoid!). Daily cap: £8.10 (Zone 1-2)
  • Oyster vs Contactless: Contactless is easiest — daily/weekly caps apply automatically. Same price as Oyster.
  • Tip: Avoid Zone 1 peak hours (7:30-9:30am, 5-7pm). Off-peak fares are cheaper.

  • London Buses: £1.75 flat fare. Free under 18. Contactless/Oyster only (no cash). Hopper fare: unlimited transfers in 1 hour.
  • National Express: Intercity coaches. London→Manchester: £5-£15. Cheaper than trains.
  • Megabus: Budget coaches from £1-£10. London→Edinburgh: £5-£20.
  • FlixBus: European-style budget coaches. Good network.
  • Local buses: Vary by region. First Bus, Arriva, Stagecoach. £2 single fare cap (England).

🚗 Driving in the UK

  • Drive on the LEFT: Steering wheel on the right side of the car
  • Speed limits: 30 mph (built-up), 60 mph (single carriageway), 70 mph (motorway/dual carriageway)
  • Driving licence: Must exchange foreign licence or take UK test within 12 months (non-EU). EU licences accepted.
  • Congestion Charge: London Zone 1: £15/day (Mon-Sun, 7am-10pm). ULEZ: £12.50/day (most of London)
  • Petrol: ~£1.40-£1.60/litre (very expensive by world standards)
