💷 National Insurance (NI)

  • Employee NI: 8% on earnings between £12,570-£50,270. 2% above £50,270.
  • Employer NI: 13.8% on earnings above £9,100
  • Self-employed: Class 2 (£3.45/week) + Class 4 (6% on profits)
  • Purpose: Funds NHS, state pension, unemployment benefits
  • NI Number: Essential for working in the UK. Like SSN in USA. Apply via DWP.

🏠 Council Tax

• Local tax for council services (bins, roads, police)
• £1,200-£3,000/year (Band A-H)
• Based on property value
• 25% discount for single occupants
• Students are exempt
• Paid monthly to local council

🛒 VAT (Value Added Tax)

• Standard rate: 20% (most goods/services)
• Reduced rate: 5% (energy, child car seats)
• Zero rate: 0% (food, children's clothes, books)

🏡 Stamp Duty (Property)

• 0% on first £250,000
• 5% on £250,001-£925,000
• 10% on £925,001-£1,500,000
