🛤️ Pathway: Visa → ILR → Citizenship

📋 Step 1: Qualifying Visa (Year 1-5)

🏠 ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain)

  • What: 24 multiple-choice questions. Pass mark: 75% (18 correct). Time: 45 minutes.
  • Topics: British history, traditions, values, government, legal system, everyday life.
  • Fee: £50. Book at lifeintheuktest.gov.uk. Take at local test centre.
  • Study Material: Official handbook: "Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents" (~£12)
  • Practice: Free practice tests on GOV.UK. Apps available on App Store/Google Play.
  • Required for: Both ILR and citizenship applications
  • Pass Rate: ~70% first attempt. Can retake (7-day wait, another £50)

🇬🇧 British Citizenship (Naturalization)

  • Eligibility: Hold ILR for 1+ year. Life in the UK test. English B1 or higher. Good character. Not breached immigration laws.
  • Fee: £1,580 (adults), £1,214 (children). Non-refundable.
  • Processing: Approximately 6 months
  • Ceremony: After approval, attend citizenship ceremony within 3 months. Take Oath of Allegiance. Receive certificate. £80 ceremony fee.
