First Sacrifice

The history of sacrifice is very ancient. The incident of Habeel-Kabeel in the Qur’an is proof of that. This is the first sacrifice in Islam. Abel was the first man to sacrifice an animal to God. According to religious accounts, Abel offered a sheep and his brother Cain’s part of his harvest to God.

Sacrifice is a sign of acceptance.

At that time, it was God’s decree or procedure that fire would come down from the sky and consume the things of those whose sacrifices were accepted. That is, the fire will burn that thing and destroy it. Accordingly, Nekkar, who came down from the sky, accepted Abel’s sacrificial animal sacrifice. On the other hand, the sacrifice offered as a harvest of Ka’il is rejected.

Provision of sacrifice

Later, Allah Ta’ala commanded the Prophet and Messenger of Islam, the father of the Muslim nation, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), to sacrifice his most beloved object in a dream, saying, ‘Sacrifice your beloved object in the name of Allah. Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) sacrificed 10 camels for the sake of Allah. But again, he was ordered to sacrifice. Then he again sacrificed 100 camels.

Even then, he received the same command and thought: The most dear thing to me at this moment is my son, Ismail Alaihis Salam. Besides, there is no other favorite object. Then he left for Mina to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail, alaihis salam. When Hazrat Ibrahim tried to stab his son in the throat to sacrifice him, he was surprised to find that an animal was sacrificed instead of Ismail Alaihis Salam, and he was not harmed.

Remembering this historic religious event, Muslims all over the world celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha festival every year to gain the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. In Islam, the 12th lunar month of the Hijri calendar is from the 10th of the month of Zilhaj to the sunset of the 12th. On this day, Muslims around the world sacrifice for the pleasure of Allah.

Sacrifice is being close to someone. To be martyred in the way of Allah in a broad sense. Also, giving one’s wealth, time, effort, and energy for religious purposes according to God’s decree is also called sacrifice in the way of God.

Through animal sacrifice, people become beloved or closer to God. Sacrifice is Islamic law, religious tradition, and cultural heritage. Korban, or Azaha, is mentioned as Islamic law. Which has to be nurtured by sacrificing animals for Allah Ta’ala during the holy festival of Eid-ul-Azha. In many places in the Holy Qur’an, there are clear instructions about sacrifice. They are-

And complete Hajj and Umrah for the sake of Allah. Then, if you are stuck, slaughter the animal that is easier. And do not shave your heads until the animal reaches its proper place. And whoever among you is sick or has any problem in his head, then he should give fidya through fasting, charity, or animal sacrifice. And when you are safe, whoever performs the Hajj after Umrah should sacrifice any animal that is easy. But whoever does not receive it, fast three days for Hajj and seven days when you return. This is the perfect ten. This provision is for him, whose family is Masaj.
