At the Auto Expo 2020, the UV maker showcased the Gurkha with a new heart. And, it’s a Mercedes-Benz engine. The 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor from the GLC has been shoehorned into the compact off-roader. This is the same engine that also does duty in the G350d. forcars.in The 2.2-litre diesel engine is capable of churning out 143PS of power and 320Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. As for the 4×4 setup, there’s a BorgWarner transfer case with a 2-stage reduction gearbox. The 4×4 system can be engaged on the fly. The off-roader gets three drive modes – 2H (2WD high range), 4H (4WD high range) and 4L (4WD low range).

The Mercedes engine is a big step up for the New Force Gurkha and is likely to give it the edge over the Maruti Jimny, at least in terms of performance.
