🛤️ Pathway: Visa → PR → Citizenship

📋 Step 1: Get PR

Express Entry, PNP, Family Sponsorship, or other programs. PR card valid for 5 years (renewable). Full work/study rights.

🏠 Step 2: Live in Canada (3 yrs)

Must live 1,095 days (3 years) in Canada within last 5 years. Each day before PR counts as half-day (max 365 days credit).

🍁 Step 3: Apply for Citizenship

Pass citizenship test (18-54). Language proof (CLB 4+). File taxes for 3 years. Fee: CAD $630 (adult). Take Oath of Citizenship.

📝 Citizenship Test

  • Who: Ages 18-54 must take the test. Under 18 and over 54 are exempt.
  • Format: 20 multiple-choice questions. Pass mark: 75% (15 correct). 30 minutes.
  • Topics: Canadian history, geography, government, rights, responsibilities, symbols.
  • Study Guide: "Discover Canada" — free PDF from IRCC. The only official study material.
  • Language: English or French. CLB 4 required (basic conversation, reading).
  • Format: Online or in-person at IRCC office. May include interview with citizenship judge.

🍁 Oath Ceremony

  • After passing: Invited to Oath of Citizenship ceremony (virtual or in-person).
  • Oath: "I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the Third, King of Canada..."
  • Receive: Citizenship certificate on the spot. Now a Canadian citizen!
  • Canadian Passport: Apply after ceremony. One of world's strongest passports — visa-free to 185+ countries.
